![]() ![]() It is not possible to implement a universal deer feeder that works in all feeding situations. When mounted on 10-12 feet of high ground, you usually have enough space to prevent a Black Bear from reaching it. Even a small Black Bear will absolutely destroy a deer feeder. Bears, as a species, are on the verge of extinction. Moving the feeder to a higher altitude off the ground will not solve all of the problems it has. Raccoons and squirrels are likely to chew holes in the hopper, but larger animals such as cows, hogs, and bears are more likely to do so. A tripod-based feeder is typically made with a fixed (as opposed to non-adjustable) height. The installation of a feeder three feet from the ground allows you to pick up a determined squirrel or raccoon faster. Towering is a fantastic exercise, but it is best reserved for feeder management. When feeding at a higher altitude, it is more difficult to refill a hunter’s feeder. There is some evidence that a lower-than-average height makes it easier for deer to consume food. What is the recommended height for a deer feeder? It is suggested that the amount be high enough so that varmints and pests (such as squirrels) are unable to get to the food. ![]() This height, which can be measured from the ground to the gravity feeder’s port, is illustrated by the letters. When you put enough legs on the feeder to get it this high, you may find it difficult to fill it. The ideal height for most deer feeders is approximately 40 inches, but this can be affected by a variety of factors. ![]()
